This month: Is my herb garden antifungal? Pencils ready!
Nature has a way of dealing with the icky stuff life dishes out. And though you may think of Rosemary and Thyme as delicious garnis or part of a Simon and Garfunkel song, they each have powerful antifungal properties as well. Rosemary is lovely herb with a sweet blue flower that has been used throughout the ages as a symbol of remembrance and friendship, and well as to ward off evil spirits and, yes, fungus! Ancient Greeks used Thyme to help conjure courage, as well as to purify rooms and keep away nightmares. Its antifungal properties probably helped ancient athletes avoid Olympian’s foot!
And though your herb garden is filled with plants that do wonders with itchy fungi as well as with sautéed mushrooms, it’s always best to consult a trusted health care professional who is knowledgeable in herbal medicine before trying to use herbs for other than culinary uses.
